FANCINE REACHES ITS 28TH EDITION WITH A PROGRAMME DEDICATED TO THE ASIAN CINEMA

The Fantastic Film Festival of the University of Málaga will be held from November 14^th to November 22^nd

This morning the Vice-rector of Culture and Sports, Tecla Lumbreras, has presented the main novelties of the 28th edition of Fancine, the Fantastic Film Festival of the University of Malaga, which will be held from November 14^th to November 22^nd at the Albéniz cinema and other university spaces.

Nine days of intense both cinematographic and playful activity with projections in different venues and activities for all audiences, which will have as a backbone the motto of this edition: ‘Asia in the veins’.

A total of 90 titles will be passed through Fancine during the projections of Albéniz cinema and other activities, either prior to the festival or that will be developed simultaneously along this week. Among them are the ten feature films that will compete in the official section, with works of consecrated directors as Lars Von Trier and of actors as well known as Juliette Binoche, Robert Pattinson or Pedro Pascal, as well as other films that have just achieved successes in festivals of reference like Sitges, Cannes or Toronto.

A new edition of Fancine with a programme at the level of festivals of reference such as Sitges, Cannes or Toronto, as the vice-rector assured today in her appearance before the media.

Likewise, the provincial coordinator of the Institute of Youth, Noelia Suárez; the technical director of the Area of Youth of the Malaga City Council, Dolores Caetano, and Víctor Gonzalez, delegate of Culture of the County Council have also attended to the presentation.

The representatives of these institutions emphasized the fundamental role of the UMA in the city of Malaga as a promoter of the culture. In this sense, Noelia Suárez remarked that Fancine is an ideal space to promote the values and to wake up the critical spirit among the young people.

The delegate of Culture of the County Council, for his part, recalled that the Fantastic Film Festival of the UMA is the only one entirely organized from a public university, turning it into a ‘real model at a national level’.

Novelties

The Vice-rector revealed some of the most relevant aspects of the present edition, such as the collaboration with the NGO Médecins without Frontiers. One more year, in its aim of acting in accordance with the principles of social responsibility, Fancine will carry out a fundraising campaign which will make available to those who want to help a total of 600 solidarity tickets, at the exchange rate of one Euro each.

Those who are interested in collaborating with this solidarity initiative have only to go through the Service of Culture, in Teatinos, at the Boulevard Louis Pasteur, 23, from tomorrow Wednesday November 7th. There you can purchase your invitations for one euro, and later redeem them in the box office of the Albéniz for the tickets to the films you want to see. All the money collected will go thoroughly to MSF.

‘There is something in the fantasy cinema that creates addiction’, said Lumbreras, who highlighted the ‘Goya Award’ level of a jury manly composed of women in this new edition of the festival.

It is the Official Jury, in charge of awarding the prize with the major economic endowment, 9,000 euros to the of Fancine’s Best Film. This time, it will be composed of five professionals of recognized prestige from de audio-visual sector.

The screenwriter Borja Crespo, the soundman Marc Orts, the deputy director of the Sitges Foundation, Mónica García, and the producers Marina Ortiz and Teresa Leal, this last one, newly arrived from Portugal, who will have the mission to award the most important prize of the Festival, in addition to other complementary recognitions.

Therefore, there will be two committees responsible for evaluating the Fancine’s official sections. Thus, the short films in competition will be evaluated by a group of students from different Andalusian public universities, which shall award two prizes of 3,000 euros for the real image and animation categories, respectively.
