The Swedish film ‘Border’, of the director of Iranian origin Ali Abassi, he has won the University of Malaga Award for the best feature film in the 28th edition of Fancine, in the opinion of the official jury of the contest. The film, a romantic story where a custom agent who detects only with her nose those guilty of contraband feels strangely attracted by an enigmatic suspect, has achieved the highest distinction of the list of winners, endowed with 9,000 euros of prize. The committee, an honor quintet formed by the sound mixer Marc Orts, the deputy director of the Sitges Foundation, Mónica García; the scriptwriter Borja Crespo and the producers Teresa Leal and Marina Ortiz, has decided to give the award to this film “for the use of the prism of fantasy for the exhibition and analysis of social issues from an intimate dimension”. Abassi inspired by a story by the author of horror novels John Ajvide Lindqvist to create a disturbing but powerful visual plot in which the limits between reality and fantasy are blurred, in the unique environment of the magical Nordic forests.

The distinction to the best director has fallen to Peter Strickland, for the surprising and colorful proposal of ‘In Fabric’, that also takes the prize for the best photography for the work of Ari Wegner in this field and the award for the best soundtrack. The prize for the best actress has been for Eva Melander for her performance in the winner ‘Border’, where the main weight of the plot falls on his character, like Matt Dillon has received the award for best actor for his work in ‘The House that Jack Built’, the latest project by the controversial Danish filmmaker Lars Von Trier. By last, the best script has been given to ‘Piercing’, the film written and directed by Nicolas Pesce and based in Ryû Murakami’s novel, while the award to the best especial effects has also been given to ‘Border’, although the committee has granted special mention to ‘Inuyashiki’.
