The new Fancine edition, which will take place between 9-17 November, adds 20 new short films to the programme that will compete in two different categories – Live Action Short Films and Animation Short Films. In its 26th edition, Fancine will have ten different live action short films covering a variety of topics. Marc Bethke from Germany has directed ‘Mikelis’, a film which talks about the retirement of a famous mathematician. In ‘Absence’, Rob Savage talks about a period of mourning from a bitter perspective. The short film ‘Cenizo’ gives the Spanish touch thanks to director Jon Mikel Caballero and satirises the act of banks evicting people from their homes. From Sweden arrives ‘House arrest’, directed by Matthias Sahli.
The North American Tim Maupin gets space in the section with ‘Last generation to die’, a modest production from 2015 that explains the progress of science in ageing. Kai Smythe brings ‘How Deep Can I Go?’, from Australia, a short film that explores the strength of love. In ‘Seth’, Zach Lasry tells the challenge of a young man whose aspiration is climbing Everest. Completing the list, from Luxembourg and Argentina, ‘Quenottes’, directed by Pascal Thiebaux and ‘Tinta’, a film that revolves around the frustration of an artist who has writer’s block.
Ten animation short films form the second of the categories in this contest. Alberto Vázquez directed ‘Decorado’, a Spanish production whose slogan is “the world is a wonderful stage but the casting is deplorable”. Another Spaniard, Juan Carlos Mostaza, brings us his film ‘Down to the wire’ which portrays a world of people made of wire. From Japan, Eri Okazaki tells the adventure of two enormous creatures in ‘Feed’. In Hungary ‘Hugo Bumfeldt’, was born – the story, told by Éva Katinka Bognár, about a young alien whose toy is a human. The Basque Aitor Oñederra presents ‘I Said I Would Never Talk About Politics’, a short film which touches on the topic. For their part, the French Elice Meng narrates the story of a nihilist bird in ‘Of shadows and wings’.
In just five minutes, ‘Post’ describes the story of a post delivery robot that has to take an important decision. Brandon Oldenburg from the United States presents ‘Taking flight’, a short film about the life and legacy of Antonio Pasin, inventor of the toy wheelbarrow from Radio Flyer. The Brazilian Alois Di Leo tells the story of a curious forest of giant trees where a young indigenous person lives in ‘Way of giants’. Finally, the Asian taste from Sin-hong Chan that presents ‘Where have the flowers gone?’ where a little pig makes its dreams come true in the big city.

The Fantastic Film Festival is organized in its entirety by the University of Malaga, public institution that counts among its core with the transmission and criticism of culture functions. It is a film festival held in the city, specializing in film fantasy genre, science fiction, mystery and terror. It is distinguished by being the only film festival of international character organized by a public university. FANCINE is acceded to the European Federation of Fantastic Film Festivals (EFFFF) member, and as such, nominated in each call to a European short film fantasy genre to choose the Golden Méliès award in its category.
